What values does a recruitment agency really have?

Recruitment companies often have a bad reputation but not all of them deserve it. Katy, MD of Smile, talks about the values which Smile has that makes Smile different than the rest.

Having worked in the recruitment sector for over 10 years, I am aware of the reputation that the recruitment industry has. Most people find recruiters to be arrogant, rude and annoying but having worked with many different recruitment consultants over the years, I can say that this is an unfair generalisation. In fact, many of the consultants that I have worked with, are nothing at all like that. Instead, they are hardworking and dedicated not only to their clients but to their candidates too.

Of course, this may be because Smile operates slightly differently to other recruitment agencies as we have a strong set of values which we adhere to at Smile. Our values are:

Respectful and inclusive

We are always respectful, friendly and inclusive to colleagues. We believe in treating others how you want to be treated and try our very hardest to include everyone in everything we do, both inside and outside of the office.

We believe that honesty is the best policy and are honest, yet polite, with each other and with our candidates and clients.

Hardworking and sales focussed

Our consultants must show a desire to be successful and work hard each day to achieve this. They must always be prepared to sell and generate new business, in addition to being professional and respectful at all times.

Supportive and creative

There is no ‘i’ in team. We expect our consultants to always get involved and be proactive. This includes sharing posts on social media, attending social events and even organising events from time-to-time or generating new ways of making Smile even better than it is now!

It also means remembering to always be friendly and supportive to others and feeling comfortable and confident enough to ask for help if they need it.

Our ultimate goal is to keep our clients and candidates happy so our aim is to give them the best possible service we can, taking time to connect with them and make them feel important.

We are loyal through and through and always have each other’s back. Celebrate success within the team, no matter how big or small, both internally and for our teachers and schools.

Knowledgable

Safeguarding is something we take really seriously. We work hard to ensure that all records are maintained and are committed to thorough compliance. In fact, we are APSCo Compliance+ acredited meaning that we go above and beyond the basic statutory safeguarding standards. In addition to this, we also take our time to really understand the industry and keep updated on any changes in laws or regulations.
