Our team just keeps on growing and we are thrilled to welcome Richard to our team. Richard is joining our Black Country team and will be on the lookout for teachers and support staff in Staffordshire, Telford and Walsall.
To give you the opportunity to get to know Richard a little better, we give him a friendly grilling on why he chose Smile and his time with us so far.
How long have you worked in recruitment?
I have worked in recruitment for a total of 8 years and spent the last 6 years in education recruitment. While working for one of the big corporates in London I supported schools in the Middle East, China and South-East Asia before moving on to those a little closer to home in West and North West London.
Working with so many different schools, in so many different areas, has given me the ability to read schools quickly and gain a good idea of what they looking for in terms of staff.
How did you find out about Smile?
Both Eamon and Patrick, who work at Smile, worked with me in my previous role. When I was looking to relocate to the Midlands, my girlfriend, met up with the pair and they informed her that Smile was hiring. Once I knew this, I got in touch straight away and as they say, the rest was history!
What attracted you to Smile?
Smile is a great company for many reasons but what really attracted me to the company, other than the premise of living with my girlfriend, was that it's a team-focused environment where people help each other. I knew this because both Eamon and Patrick had given the company glowing recommendations.
Of course, I did my research too and could see just how much the team seemed to get on and they shared the same values as me.
What was the application process like?
After submitting my CV, I came into the office for a face-to-face interview with Katy. During the interview, we talked about my experience and reasons for joining Smile. One thing that I was really keen to do, was to spend some time in the office with the consultants (the ones I didn't already know!) to get a feel for what it was like to work here.
I chatted with Jaleesa, who has worked at Smile for a number of years and Gavin who recently started in recruitment but is from my neck of the woods. It was great to get to know them a little better and find out a little more about life at Smile.
What is your role at Smile? What do you do, what areas do you cover?
At Smile, I am a Principal Consultant, helping primary teachers and support staff find roles across the Staffordshire and Telford areas. Although I have never supported this area before, I am really excited about the challenges it will bring and work with some of the great schools and staff in the area.
What was your first day like?
Very welcoming! I was taken through what the company procedures were and what my expectations were before meeting the team. Then it was about getting stuck into the role. I'm learning a lot and surrounded by hardworking and supportive people. It's was a dream!
What are you most excited about?
The opportunity to contribute straight away, meeting clients and candidates that I can help!
How does Smile compare to your previous company?
Smile is a pretty unique company. What sets them apart is that it celebrates the success of each and every member of the team and everyone helps each other!
