Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding part-time opportunity within a high-achieving specialist secondary school?

Smile Education are currently recruiting for an experienced Teaching Assistant to join a highly regarded secondary school in Birmingham on a maternity cover basis, starting in mid-November.
The school has a strong focus on academic achievement, literacy, numeracy and developing students' confidence and independence. It provides a supportive and ambitious learning environment where staff work closely together to ensure students receive the academic and pastoral support they need to succeed.
This is an excellent opportunity for a confident and proactive Teaching Assistant who is looking for a role that combines classroom support, targeted intervention work and pastoral responsibility.

The Role
The successful Teaching Assistant will have a varied role, supporting students both inside and outside of the classroom.
Key responsibilities will include:
  • Providing in-class support to students, working alongside teachers to help pupils access the curriculum and make progress.
  • Supervising structured reading interventions for groups of up to 25 students at a time, ensuring students remain engaged and supported throughout the session.
  • Supporting students who require additional help with reading fluency, comprehension and literacy skills.
  • Delivering targeted Maths interventions, working with students to address gaps in their knowledge and develop confidence with core mathematical skills.
  • Monitoring students' engagement and progress during interventions and providing appropriate feedback to teaching staff.
  • Acting as a keyworker for a designated group of students, developing strong professional relationships and providing consistent academic and pastoral support.
  • Supporting students with organisation, motivation, confidence and engagement with their learning.
  • Working closely with teaching staff and pastoral colleagues to identify barriers to learning and provide appropriate support.
  • Encouraging students to develop independence, resilience and positive attitudes towards their education.
The Ideal Candidate
The school is particularly keen to hear from Teaching Assistants who have:
  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant within a secondary school or similar educational setting.
  • Experience delivering or supporting literacy/reading interventions.
  • Confidence working with larger intervention groups, including groups of up to 25 students.
  • Strong Maths skills and the ability to deliver targeted Maths interventions.
  • Experience providing effective in-class support.
  • The ability to build positive and professional relationships with students.
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills.
  • A calm, patient and consistent approach.
  • The confidence to take responsibility for a group of students as a keyworker.
  • A genuine commitment to improving students' academic progress and wellbeing.
