Smile Education are looking for a
dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a primary school in
Dudley, providing
1:1 support to a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in Key Stage 1.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is patient, consistent and able to build a strong, trusting relationship with a young child. The school is looking for a Teaching Assistant who can provide the right balance of encouragement, structure and reassurance to help the pupil feel settled and confident in the classroom.
The roleYou will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to provide individualised support throughout the school day.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing dedicated 1:1 support to a KS1 pupil with ASD
- Helping the pupil access classroom learning and take part in activities
- Supporting communication, social interaction and emotional regulation
- Using agreed strategies to help the pupil manage transitions and changes to routine
- Encouraging independence and positive behaviour
- Providing reassurance and maintaining a calm, consistent approach
- Adapting activities and learning tasks where needed
- Supporting the pupil during lessons, break times and other parts of the school day
- Building a positive and trusting relationship with the child
- Working collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school team
- Monitoring progress and sharing observations with relevant staff
What we're looking forThe right person will be
warm, patient and reliable, with a genuine interest in supporting children with additional needs.
Previous experience supporting children with
ASD or other special educational needs would be highly beneficial. Experience working within a primary school or with children in
Key Stage 1 is also desirable.
You don't necessarily need to have worked in exactly the same role before. If you have experience in education, childcare, support work, residential care or similar settings and have the right approach, we'd be keen to hear from you.
