SEN Teaching Assistant – Reception ClassLocation: Rowley Regis, West Midlands

We are looking to appoint a dedicated and experienced
Level 2 SEN Teaching Assistant to support children with
complex Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) within a Reception class from September 2026.
This is an excellent opportunity for a compassionate and skilled Teaching Assistant who has experience working with children with additional needs in either a
mainstream primary school or
special school setting. The successful candidate will work closely with class teachers, SENCOs and external professionals to provide tailored support that enables pupils to access learning, develop independence and achieve their individual targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality support for children with complex SEND within the Reception classroom.
- Deliver targeted interventions and personalised learning activities under the direction of the class teacher and SENCO.
- Support pupils with communication, social interaction, emotional regulation and learning needs.
- Promote inclusion and encourage participation in all aspects of school life.
- Monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teaching staff.
- Assist with personal care and medical needs where required.
- Build positive relationships with pupils, parents, carers and external agencies.
Essential Requirements
- Recognised Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) in a minimum of a level 2.
- Experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in either a mainstream or specialist provision.
- Understanding of a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), developmental delay and complex learning needs.
- Knowledge of EYFS practice and child development.
- Strong communication, teamwork and organisational skills.
- Patient, caring and adaptable approach to supporting children.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Desirable
- Experience supporting children in an EYFS or Reception setting.
- Training in autism support, communication strategies or positive behaviour support.
- Experience working alongside therapists and other professionals.
An enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references will be required for the successful applicant.
