Smile Education are currently recruiting for a proactive and reliable Pastoral Assistant to join a supportive secondary school in Telford.
This is a full-time, long-term opportunity with an immediate start, with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young people and is confident supporting students with behaviour, engagement and pastoral needs. You’ll play an important role in helping to maintain a safe, calm and positive school environment.
The RoleAs a Pastoral Assistant you will:
  • Patrol corridors and support students to get to lessons on time.
  • Respond to on-call requests from teachers and provide support with behaviour incidents.
  • Work with students who have been removed from lessons, helping them reflect on their behaviour and reintegrate into class.
  • Supervise students during break and lunchtime.
  • Build positive relationships with students while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries.
  • Support students to develop better behaviour, accountability and resilience.
  • Make phone calls home and communicate with parents/carers where required.
  • Work alongside teachers and the pastoral team to maintain high standards of behaviour and student engagement.
What We're Looking ForWe're looking for someone who is calm, confident and resilient when working with young people.
The ideal candidate will:
  • Have experience working with young people in a school, youth work, sports, mentoring or similar setting.
  • Be confident managing challenging behaviour and maintaining boundaries.
  • Have a positive and approachable manner.
  • Be able to build strong relationships with students.
  • Be reliable, proactive and professional.
  • Be comfortable working as part of a wider pastoral and behaviour team.
School experience isn't essential — we're also interested in candidates from youth work, sports coaching, mentoring, residential care or similar backgrounds.
