Class-based teaching assistant – afternoons only – WV11
Smile Education is currently recruiting for a class-based teaching assistant to join a primary school in the WV11 area.
This is an afternoon-only opportunity and would suit an experienced teaching assistant looking for regular part-time work within a primary school environment.
The role
Working alongside the class teacher, you will provide valuable classroom support and help pupils engage positively with their learning and development.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the class teacher during afternoon lessons and activities
- Working with individual pupils and small groups where required
- Supporting children with their learning and development
- Providing additional support to pupils with SEN and additional needs
- Helping pupils remain focused and engaged with their work
- Encouraging positive behaviour and good learning habits
- Supporting children's confidence, independence and social development
- Assisting with classroom activities and preparation where required
- Creating a positive, safe and inclusive classroom environment
- Working closely with the class teacher and wider school team
- Providing encouragement and reassurance to pupils who require additional support
- Helping pupils develop positive relationships with their peers
- Supporting pupils who may need additional guidance with behaviour, attention or emotional regulation
The school is looking for a reliable and enthusiastic teaching assistant who can quickly build positive relationships with pupils and become a valued member of the classroom team.

- Experienced working in a primary school environment
- Confident supporting children within a busy classroom

- Able to support pupils with a range of abilities and needs
- Confident working with individuals and small groups
- Proactive and willing to support wherever needed
- Able to follow the direction of the class teacher
- Reliable and professional
- Calm and consistent when supporting behaviour
- Able to build positive relationships with children
- Passionate about supporting children's learning and development
Experience supporting children with SEN would be desirable, although we are also interested in hearing from teaching assistants with strong mainstream classroom experience.
