Smile Education are currently working in partnership with a welcoming and supportive secondary school in Telford to recruit a proactive and reliable Behaviour Mentor for an immediate start.This is a full-time, long-term opportunity with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate. It would suit someone who is confident managing behaviour, building positive relationships with young people and helping to maintain a calm and purposeful school environment.
The Role
As a Behaviour Mentor, you will play a key role in supporting the school's behaviour systems and helping students to remain focused and engaged throughout the school day. Your responsibilities will include:
- Patrolling corridors throughout the school day and ensuring students are where they need to be.
- Encouraging pupils to get to lessons on time and supporting those who are reluctant to enter the classroom.
- Responding to emergency call-outs from teachers and staff to provide immediate behaviour support.
- Supporting students who have been removed from lessons and helping them to regulate and return to learning.
- Dealing confidently and calmly with challenging behaviour and situations as they arise.
- Making phone calls home to parents and carers when required, helping to address behavioural concerns and encourage positive engagement.
- Building positive relationships with students while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries.
- Supporting teachers and pastoral staff to maintain high standards of behaviour across the school.
- Promoting positive behaviour, attendance and engagement throughout the school day.
What We're Looking ForWe're looking for someone who:
- Has experience working with young people in a school, youth work, mentoring, coaching, behaviour support or similar setting.
- Is confident dealing with challenging behaviour and responding to situations calmly and professionally.
- Can build strong relationships with students while maintaining clear boundaries and high expectations.
- Has excellent communication skills and is confident speaking with parents, carers and school staff.
- Is resilient, proactive and able to remain calm under pressure.
- Is reliable and enjoys working as part of a supportive pastoral and behaviour team.
This role would particularly suit candidates with backgrounds in
education, behaviour support, pastoral work, youth work, sports coaching, teaching assistance or mentoring.
