Smile Education are currently recruiting on behalf of a
secondary school in Telford for a Student Behaviour & Engagement Officer to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is confident working with young people and has a calm, consistent and positive approach to behaviour management.
The role will predominantly focus on
student supervision, behaviour management and supporting students around the school campus, helping to create a safe, positive and purposeful environment where students can participate fully in Academy life.
The Role
As a Student Behaviour & Engagement Officer, you will:
- Promote excellent behaviour and high standards throughout the Academy.
- Support students to develop self-regulation, accountability and resilience.
- Provide individual and group support to targeted students where required.
- Take responsibility for maintaining positive standards of behaviour and student conduct.
- Carry out physical supervision of students across the Academy.
- Supervise students during break and lunchtime.
- Support the supervision of seclusion.
- Supervise students in and around the Academy campus.
- Support with the dismissal of students at the end of the Academy day, both on campus and in the immediate vicinity.
- Support the implementation of the Academy's behaviour management procedures.
- Encourage students to participate fully in Academy life.
- Work alongside colleagues to create a safe, respectful and positive environment for all students.
Who We're Looking ForWe're looking for someone who is
confident, approachable and passionate about making a positive difference to young people.
You don't necessarily need to have worked in a school before. We're interested in candidates who can demonstrate the right attitude, resilience and ability to build positive relationships.
The ideal candidate will:
- Be confident and consistent when managing student behaviour and maintaining boundaries.
- Have a calm, patient and approachable manner, even in challenging situations.
- Be able to build positive and trusting relationships with young people.
- Have the resilience to work with students who may display challenging behaviour or require additional support.
- Be passionate about helping young people develop accountability, self-regulation and resilience.
- Communicate effectively with students and colleagues.
- Be proactive, reliable and able to use their initiative when supervising students around the Academy.
- Be comfortable working both independently and as part of a wider pastoral and behaviour team.
- Have a genuine commitment to creating a safe, positive and inclusive school environment.
- Be willing to support students both inside and outside of the classroom, including during break, lunch and other key points of the school day.
Experience working with young people is desirable, whether this has been gained within education, youth work, sports coaching, mentoring, residential care, community work or another relevant setting.
