SEN Teaching Assistant – Sport & Activity Focused
1:1 and Classroom Support | SEMH | Full Time Location: B95, Birmingham Pay: £90.00 – £110.00 per day
Contract: Full time, Monday–Friday (until the end of the academic year)
An exciting opportunity for a
sporty, energetic, and motivated SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils aged
9–16 with SEMH needs, delivering a mix of
1:1 intervention and classroom-based support in a positive, inclusive school setting. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being
active, engaging, and hands-on, using sport and movement to support behaviour, focus, and emotional wellbeing.

The Role:
- Provide 1:1 support for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
- Support pupils within the classroom environment, helping them access learning alongside peers
- Use sport, physical activity, and movement-based strategies to support emotional regulation and engagement
- Assist with small group activities and whole-class learning when required
- Encourage teamwork, resilience, confidence, and positive behaviour
- Support pupils during PE lessons, outdoor learning, and structured breaktimes
- Work closely with class teachers and the SEN team to implement tailored strategies
Requirements:
- Experience supporting children or young people aged 9–16 with SEMH/SEN (essential)
- A sporty, active, and energetic approach
- Patient, nurturing, and resilient attitude
- Ability to build strong, positive relationships with pupils and staff
- Confident working independently and as part of a professional team
- Commitment to working full time until the end of the academic year
- Relevant qualification or extensive experience in a similar role
- Able to provide 2 references covering the past two years (one must reference work with children)
- Hold an enhanced DBS or be willing to apply for one through Smile Education
