Learning Support Assistant

Smile Education are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a vibrant mainstream primary school in Burton upon Trent. The school features a specialist SEND hub onsite, providing targeted support for pupils with additional needs, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, PMLD, and physical disabilities.

The school is proud of its inclusive ethos and tailored approach to learning, ensuring every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential. Many pupils in the SEND hub have EHCPs and benefit from structured 1:1 and small-group support.

The Role:
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to students within the SEND hub and across the school.
  • Create and maintain a positive, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Use your skills and experience to help children build confidence and independence.
  • Support with personal care, where required, and lead engaging activities designed to meet individual learning needs.
  • Demonstrate strong behaviour management skills and the ability to de-escalate challenging situations effectively.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and the wider school team to deliver high-quality support.
Requirements:
  • A relevant qualification in Childcare, Health and Social Care, or Supporting Teaching and Learning (essential).
    Other qualifications will not be considered for this role.
  • UK-based experience supporting children or young people with SEND.
  • Ability to provide two professional references covering the past two years.
  • Hold a current Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to apply for one through Smile Education.
  • Be hands-on, proactive, and resilient, with a genuine passion for supporting children’s development.
