Learning Support Assistant

Are you passionate about supporting young people with additional needs?
Smile Education is currently recruiting for a dedicated and flexible SEN Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming post-16 setting in Walsall, working with students aged 16 to 25.
You’ll be supporting students with a variety of special educational needs, including:
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • ADHD
  • Physical Disabilities
  • Hearing and Visual Impairments
  • Trauma-related needs
You will work closely with students during their chosen study subjects, providing in-lesson support, help during lunch periods, and assisting with social inclusion and friendship building. This is a student-centred role requiring empathy, resilience, and a proactive attitude.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEN
  • Assist with classroom learning, working alongside teachers and other professionals
  • Encourage student engagement both in lessons and during social times
  • Support students in building confidence and friendships
  • Be flexible to cover staff absences when required
Requirements:
  • A minimum Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Childcare, Education, or a related field
  • Recent experience supporting young people with SEN
  • A positive, can-do attitude and the ability to work independently or under direction
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply through Smile Education
  • Flexibility and a commitment to supporting diverse student needs
