Learning Support Assistant

Smile Education are proud to be working in partnership with one of our long-standing, inclusive SEND settings in Walsall, who are currently recruiting several Learning Support Assistants to join their dedicated team this September.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work with young people aged 16–25, all of whom have a range of additional needs, including autism, learning difficulties, and physical disabilities. You will be part of a supportive and professional team committed to ensuring every student has equal access to education and support.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide in-class support, ensuring students can access the curriculum effectively.
  • Support students with personal care, when required.
  • Assist during lunchtime periods and help maintain a calm, safe environment.
  • Attend student support meetings and contribute to personalised learning plans.
  • Meet and greet students from transport in the morning, and assist them at the end of the day.
  • Be willing to work across up to three different sites, depending on student placement.
Essential Requirements:
  • Minimum of a Level 2 qualification in Childcare or Education (unqualified candidates will not be considered).
  • UK-based experience supporting students with SEND.
  • Confident supporting students with a range of additional needs.
  • Comfortable providing personal care.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a wider support team.
  • Recent, relevant experience (within the last 2 years) supporting students with SEND.
  • Able to provide two professional references covering at least the past two years.
  • Hold an enhanced DBS on the update service or be willing to obtain a new one.
