Smile Education are currently recruiting a Geography Teacher to work within a secondary school in Oldham from the new academic year.
This is an excellent opportunity for a committed Geography specialist to join a welcoming and supportive school environment with strong values, high expectations and a clear focus on student progress.
The role is suitable for experienced teachers and ECTs. The position is expected to run on a long-term basis, with the potential to continue beyond the academic year.
The school is looking for someone who is punctual, professional and confident in the classroom. They place strong value on Geography as a subject that develops students’ understanding of the world, environmental awareness, analytical thinking and curiosity about global issues.

Role Overview
As a Geography Teacher, you will deliver engaging and well-structured Geography lessons across KS3 and KS4, with potential KS5 depending on the placement.
You will support students in developing strong geographical knowledge, critical thinking, map skills, fieldwork understanding and confidence in applying key concepts. You will be expected to quickly settle into the school, build positive relationships with pupils and staff, and uphold the ethos and expectations of the wider school community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver Geography lessons in line with the national curriculum.
  • Teach Geography across KS3 and KS4, with KS5 experience advantageous.
  • Create a positive, inclusive and focused classroom environment.
  • Adapt lessons to meet the needs of students of varying abilities, including SEND.
  • Manage classroom behaviour confidently in line with school policies.
  • Assess and monitor student progress where required.
  • Support students in developing geographical knowledge, analytical skills and environmental awareness.
  • Contribute positively to the wider Humanities department and school community.
  • Uphold professional standards, safeguarding expectations and school ethos.
 
Requirements
  • The successful candidate will hold QTS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification, or have strong unqualified teaching experience.
  • Applicants should have experience teaching Geography within a UK secondary school.
  • Strong subject knowledge across KS3 and KS4 is essential.
  • Candidates must demonstrate confident classroom and behaviour management.
  • The successful candidate will be professional, reliable, adaptable and able to quickly settle into a new school environment.
  • Applicants must hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one.
  • Candidates must have the right to work in the UK.
 
Pay and Benefits
  • £170–£235 per day, dependent on experience and pay scale.
  • Long-term, stable placement from the new academic year.
