Core Teachers with SEN/PRU Experience Wanted!
 
Are you a qualified English or Maths Teacher with a calm, compassionate approach and experience supporting students with additional needs?
We’re recruiting on behalf of a welcoming, supportive provision in Wigan (WN2), and they’re seeking dedicated Core Subject Teachers—specifically English Teachers and Maths Teachers—to join their team.
 
Position: English Teacher or Maths Teacher
Location: Wigan (WN2)
Start Date: Immediate
Pay Rate: £160–£230 per day (depending on experience)
Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent

In the most recent Ofsted inspection (2023), this specialist setting was graded “Good”, with inspectors noting that “pupils feel safe, respected, and supported to succeed.”

About the Role:
This opportunity is perfect for strong English or Maths Teachers who excel in SEN or PRU settings and are confident teaching students with SEMH needs, learning difficulties, or educational gaps. You will work in a structured yet nurturing environment, delivering high-quality lessons that are both stimulating and accessible.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and deliver differentiated English or Maths lessons tailored to individual needs.
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to help pupils build confidence and close learning gaps.
  • Use trauma-informed and restorative approaches to support pupils with complex behavioural or emotional needs.
  • Track academic progress, set targets, and adapt instruction accordingly.
  • Foster trusting, positive relationships with pupils to create a safe, inclusive learning space.
  • Collaborate with SENCOs, teaching assistants, behaviour mentors, and other professionals.
  • Participate in EHCP reviews, behaviour plans, and pastoral strategies.
  • Encourage high expectations around effort, respect, and resilience.
 
About the Provision:
This specialist provision in Wigan provides a safe, structured, and supportive environment for pupils who have struggled in mainstream settings. Staff focus on re-engaging learners, enhancing self-belief, and developing essential life skills to help students thrive.
 
What We’re Looking For:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or PGCE.
  • Strong subject knowledge in Secondary English and/or Maths.
  • Essential experience in SEN, PRU, or alternative provision.
  • Excellent behaviour management and ability to build trust with vulnerable learners.
  • Reflective, proactive attitude and genuine passion for inclusive education.
  • Current enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
