Primary SEN Teacher – Full Time (Complex Needs Specialist) Location: B34
Pay: £160 – £230 per day (dependent on experience)
Contract: Full-time, Monday–Friday until the end of the academic year (potential to extend)
Smile Education is proud to be supporting a highly specialist primary SEN school in B34 that caters for pupils with very complex needs and extremely challenging behaviour. This setting requires a confident, resilient and highly experienced SEN practitioner who thrives in structured, therapeutic environments.
This is not a mainstream SEN role — the school supports pupils with complex Autism, SEMH, trauma backgrounds, communication needs, and behaviours that can present as physical and highly dysregulated. The successful candidate must be calm under pressure, consistent, and experienced in behaviour de-escalation strategies.
The Role
• Lead a small class of pupils with complex SEN and high behavioural needs
• Plan and deliver highly differentiated, personalised lessons aligned to EHCPs
• Implement structured behaviour management and positive handling strategies
• Create a safe, predictable and therapeutic learning environment
• Work using trauma-informed and restorative approaches
• Track and evidence small-step progress academically, socially and emotionally
• Liaise closely with SENCO, therapists and external professionals
• Lead and direct experienced teaching assistants within the classroom
• Attend multi-agency meetings and annual reviews
• Safeguard and promote pupil wellbeing at all times

Requirements
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – ESSENTIAL
• Minimum 1 year SEN teaching experience (complex needs essential)
• Strong background in Autism and SEMH
• Confident managing high-level behaviour and physical intervention (Team Teach or similar preferred)
• Resilient, calm and emotionally intelligent
• Proven ability to build trust with vulnerable pupils
• Able to commit full time – consistency is crucial
• Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willing to apply)
• Minimum 2 references covering the last 2 years
