Site Maintenance Operative

Smile Education are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Maintenance Operative to start as soon as possible at a well-established organisation based in Harborne, Birmingham.

The successful applicant will be responsible for carrying out a wide range of planned and reactive maintenance duties, ensuring buildings and facilities are maintained to a high standard. This is a hands-on role requiring a skilled multi-trade operative with experience in general building maintenance, particularly plastering, carpentry, decorating, and general repairs.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive and professional team within a respected organisation. The expected pay rate for the role is between £16.00 - £17.00 per hour, depending on experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Carrying out general building repairs and maintenance across the site.
  • Completing plastering, carpentry, decorating, and other multi-trade maintenance tasks.
  • Responding promptly to planned and reactive maintenance requests.
  • Supporting the Maintenance Manager with a variety of repair and maintenance projects.
  • Ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
  • Operating tools and equipment safely and in line with health and safety procedures.
  • Undertaking manual handling tasks, including lifting and moving equipment and materials where required.
  • Responding appropriately to emergency maintenance situations.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and organised working environment.
  • Supporting colleagues and providing cover where required.
The Ideal Candidate Will:
  • Have previous experience working as a Maintenance Operative, Multi-Trade Operative, or Building Maintenance Technician.
  • Hold a minimum Level 2 qualification in a relevant trade, with plastering being essential.
  • Have experience in carpentry, decorating, and general building maintenance.
  • Be physically fit and capable of carrying out manual handling duties.
  • Be able to work independently and use their own initiative.
  • Demonstrate a mature, reliable, and professional approach to work.
  • Hold a full UK driving licence.
  • Have a good understanding of health and safety procedures.

We are looking for applicants with proven experience in building maintenance or multi-trade roles who can demonstrate practical skills across a variety of maintenance disciplines. Successful candidates will be flexible, dependable, and committed to delivering high-quality workmanship while maintaining a safe working environment.
