Smile Education are currently recruiting for a Lunchtime Supervisor to start immediately at a welcoming SEND school in the Wolverhampton area.
The successful applicant will play a key role in supporting pupils during the lunchtime period, ensuring their safety, wellbeing and positive engagement in a structured and nurturing environment. This is a rewarding opportunity to join a dedicated and supportive school team.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:- Key Responsibilities:
- Supervising pupils during lunchtime in the dining hall, classrooms and designated outdoor areas.
- Supporting pupils during mealtimes, encouraging independence where appropriate and providing assistance in line with individual needs.
- Promoting positive behaviour, social interaction and inclusive play in a safe and supportive environment.
- Providing reassurance and guidance to pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs (SEN), including those with communication, learning, physical or behavioural needs.
- Using positive behaviour management strategies to support pupils and help de-escalate situations where required.
- Ensuring safeguarding, health and safety, and individual care plans are followed at all times.
- Reporting any concerns, incidents or achievements to teaching staff and senior leaders.
- Working closely with the wider school team to provide a calm, nurturing and positive lunchtime experience for all pupils.
The successful candidate will:
- Have experience working with children or young people, ideally within an SEN school, specialist setting or a care/support environment.
- Be patient, caring and compassionate, with a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
- Be confident supporting pupils with a range of SEN, including autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language needs, and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to build positive relationships with pupils, colleagues and parents.
- Be reliable, punctual and able to work effectively as part of a supportive team.
- Demonstrate a good understanding of safeguarding, child protection and positive behaviour support.
- Remain calm under pressure and be able to adapt their approach to meet the individual needs of each pupil.
What to expect from applicants? Applicants should have previous experience working with children or young people. Experience within an SEN setting is desirable, though training and guidance will be provided. A strong awareness of health and safety and safeguarding is essential.
