Smile Education are recruiting for a behaviour mentor to work in a school in the Moston area. The school are committed to supporting staff, care deeply about their students and aim to succeed in all aspects of school life to facilitate achievement.
As a behaviour mentor you will:- Deliver individual sessions to help students understand and regulate their feelings.
- Implement and support behaviour management plans and strategies.
- Guide students in developing empathy, resilience, and social interaction skills.
- Work with teachers, SENCos (Special Educational Needs Coordinators), parents, and pastoral staff.
- Provide a positive, consistent presence, helping build trust and engagement.
- Calmly manage challenging behaviour using positive, proactive techniques in order to de-escalate challenging situations.
A typical day will include:- Reviewing student needs, check for any overnight issues, and prepare for the day.
- Conducting one-on-one sessions with students, focusing on trust-building, self-esteem, and resolving barriers to learning.
- Oversee students in non-classroom settings (playground, dining hall) or structured activities for students who struggle with unstructured breaks.
- Meeting with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to discuss student progress and strategies.
- Make calls or visits to parents to discuss issues and share strategies or prepare for workshops.
To be successful you will have: - An undergraduate degree in any relevant degree e.g. Psychology, Maths, English, Social care... (2:2 or above)
- A willingness to adapt and be flexible in duties and approaches.
- Strong communication and behaviour management skills.
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English & Maths
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willing to apply)
