Secondary Cover Supervisor

Smile Education are currently working in partnership with a welcoming and forward‑thinking secondary school in Manchester to recruit confident and reliable Cover Supervisors. There are multiple opportunities available, offering excellent flexibility to suit full‑time or part‑time availability.
This is a fantastic opportunity to gain meaningful classroom experience within a supportive school environment that places children first and values strong character, consistency, and professionalism.
 
Role Overview
As a Cover Supervisor, you will be responsible for supervising pre‑set lessons across KS3 and KS4 in the absence of the class teacher. You will play a key role in maintaining continuity of learning, ensuring pupils remain engaged, on task, and working productively.

Work is available from one to five days per week, depending on your availability.
 
The School

Qualifications are valued, but attitude, reliability, and confidence are considered more important than formal experience alone.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver pre‑planned lessons in the absence of teaching staff
  • Maintain a positive, structured, and productive learning environment
  • Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies
  • Ensure students stay on task and complete set work
  • Support students of varying abilities, including SEND where required
  • Promote a respectful and inclusive classroom culture
  • Provide feedback to teaching staff where appropriate
  • Uphold safeguarding expectations and school ethos
 
Requirements
The successful candidate will:
  • Have recent experience working with children or young people
  • Be punctual, professional, and confident in their approach
  • Be comfortable leading groups of secondary‑aged students
  • Demonstrate strong communication and behaviour management skills
  • Be adaptable, resilient, and proactive
  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS (or be willing to obtain one)
Experience in schools, mentoring, coaching, tuition, youth work, or similar backgrounds is highly suitable.
