Smile Education are currently recruiting Graduate Trainee Teachers to support secondary schools across Greater Manchester.
This is an excellent opportunity for graduates considering a future career in teaching who want meaningful classroom experience before progressing into teacher training, a PGCE, SCITT or another education route.
You will not be expected to plan full lessons or work as a qualified teacher. Instead, you will supervise pre-prepared work in the absence of the class teacher, support pupils with their learning and help maintain a focused, respectful and productive classroom environment.
 
Role Overview
As a Graduate Trainee Teacher, you will supervise lessons across KS3 and KS4 using work set by teaching staff.
You may cover a range of subjects, with schools aiming to place you in areas linked to your degree, academic background or future teaching interests where possible.
This role is ideal for graduates who want regular school-based experience, exposure to secondary education and the chance to develop confidence with behaviour management, pupil engagement and classroom routines.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise pre-planned lessons across KS3 and KS4.
  • Deliver instructions and resources left by teaching staff.
  • Keep pupils focused, engaged and on task.
  • Maintain a calm, structured classroom environment.
  • Manage behaviour in line with school policies.
  • Support pupils of varying abilities, including SEND where required.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
  • Provide feedback to teaching staff after lessons.
  • Adapt quickly to different subjects, year groups and school routines.
  • Follow safeguarding procedures at all times.
 
Requirements
  • The successful candidate will be a graduate with a strong interest in education.
  • Candidates from a wide range of degree backgrounds will be considered.
  • You should be confident communicating with secondary-aged pupils.
  • You must be professional, reliable, punctual and adaptable.
  • Experience in tutoring, mentoring, coaching, youth work, volunteering or working with young people is desirable.
  • Previous school experience is helpful but not essential.
  • You must be willing to learn, take feedback and develop your classroom practice.
  • You must hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one.
  • You must have the right to work in the UK.
 
Pay and Benefits
  • £95–£130 per day, dependent on experience and placement responsibilities.
  • Flexible work available from one to five days per week.
  • Day-to-day, short-term, block and long-term opportunities available.
  • Valuable classroom experience for future teacher training, PGCE, SCITT or school-based routes.
  • Potential to cover subjects linked to your degree or future teaching interest.
  • Dedicated support from an experienced education consultant.
  • Ongoing guidance throughout each placement.
