Smile Education are currently recruiting for a confident and adaptable Cover Supervisor to work within a successful and supportive secondary school in Cannock.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young people and is looking to gain further experience within education. The role would suit an aspiring teacher, experienced Cover Supervisor, Teaching Assistant or someone with previous experience supporting young people.
The school is a successful 11–19 secondary setting with a strong sense of community. Staff and students benefit from a welcoming and supportive environment where mutual respect, positive behaviour and high expectations are central to school life.
As a Cover Supervisor, you will play an important role in maintaining continuity of learning during the short-term absence of teaching staff. You will supervise classes, deliver pre-prepared work and ensure students remain focused, engaged and on task. There may also be opportunities to support the wider pastoral team and promote positive behaviour, inclusion and student wellbeing.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervising classes during the short-term absence of the classroom teacher.
  • Delivering pre-prepared work and following instructions provided by teaching staff.
  • Maintaining a calm, positive and purposeful learning environment.
  • Managing classroom behaviour in line with school policies and expectations.
  • Supporting students to remain engaged, focused and motivated.
  • Ensuring students complete the work set and make effective use of lesson time.
  • Providing feedback to teaching staff regarding behaviour, engagement and work completed.
  • Building positive and professional relationships with students and staff.
  • Supporting pastoral priorities and promoting positive behaviour, inclusion and wellbeing.
  • Carrying out additional duties to support the smooth running of the school day when required.
The School Are Looking For
  • Previous experience working with children or young people.
  • Experience as a Cover Supervisor, Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or similar role is desirable.
  • A confident, calm and professional presence in the classroom.
  • The ability to manage behaviour effectively and maintain high expectations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Confidence working across a range of subjects and year groups.
  • A flexible, reliable and adaptable approach.
  • A genuine commitment to supporting students' learning, development and wellbeing.
