What does the Emergency Paediatric First Aid Training cover?

Our Emergency Paediatric First Aid Training is run by a qualified First Response paramedic and teaches you what to do in an emergency situation involving a child or a baby at home, in nursery or in school.

The course covers:

  • Assessing an emergency situation and prioritising what actions to take
  • Helping a baby or child who is choking
  • Helping a baby or child who is bleeding
  • Helping a baby or child who is unresponsive and breathing normally
  • Helping a baby or child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally
  • Helping a baby or child who is having a seizure
  • Helping a baby or child who is suffering from shock caused by severe blood loss (hypovolemic shock)

Our Emergency Paediatric First Aid Training for early years teachers and nursery practitioners also covers:

  • Roles and responsibilities of a first aider
  • Cross infection
  • Recording incidents & actions
  • Use of available equipment including the basics of using a de-fib machine
  • Assessing an incident

The training is practical and offers all participants the opportunity to develop the basic first aid skills and knowledge needed to deal with a range of emergency paediatric first aid situations which could arise when looking after children in a nursery, school, residential or home setting.

Who Should Complete Emergency Paediatric First Aid Training?

Anyone who works with children or babies in a professional setting will benefit from this training and it is compulsory for all newly qualified nursery staff. This is an entry-level course which is suitable for anyone, includng teachers and teaching assistants, who may need to help an infant or child during the event of an emergency making it perfect for those working in nursery or early years settings. 

How Long Does the Course Take to Complete and How Long Does the Qualification Last?

Our Emergency Paediatric First Aid training is a full-day course and runs from 9:30-4:30 with time for breaks and reflection.

On completion you'll be a certified as Paediatric First Aider and your certificatie is valid for three years. To retain the qualification, you'll need to complete the training again after this time.

How Much Does the Training Cost?

We can offer a fantastic discount on the course, offering it at a cost of £35.50 to all teachers, nursery nurses, teaching assistants and school staff who are registered with us. Anyone who completes the course through Smile Education can go on to complete day two of the course, giving you the full paediatric first aid qualification. The second day must be completed within 6 weeks of the first.

Where and When Can I Do an Emergency Paediatric First Aid Course?

Training sessions are run locally throughout the year during the school holidays to give everyone a chance to attend. They are held locally in the West Midlands.
