Exam Invigilation with Smile

As exam season approaches for students the need for exam invigilators in schools increases. Luckily for us, we have a support services team, made up of the lovely Leah and Danielle, who specialise in recruiting exam invigilators and other non-teaching school staff.

What is an exam invigilator?

Exam invigilators supervise students during their exams to ensure that exam conditions and regulations are being met. As part of their role, they will give out and collect in the exam papers as well as provide students with the equipment necessary to complete the exam.

As exams are seasonal, it’s not a full-time position and hours are typically short (up to 3 hours per day) which means it’s well suited to students, parents and retirees who are looking to boost their income. But don’t just take our word for it, hear it from some of our very own exam invigilators.

Abigail Mead - Part-Timer Worker

Why have you chosen to do exam invigilation, what are the benefits to you?

I was looking to pick up some extra hours and this seemed to be the perfect way to do this. It is a great opportunity to work flexible hours, earn some extra money and the schools are always local to me.

What do you enjoy about invigilation?

Exams are a very stressful time for the students, so it is important that they are in the right environment to succeed. It isn’t just making sure they remain under exam conditions you also have to provide the right support to the students if needed e.g reading and writing and that’s what I enjoy.

Would you recommend exam invigilation to a friend and what tip would you give them?

Yes, I would as it is a perfect role to earn some extra money and to gain experience for all ages. My advice would be to wear comfortable shoes and take a water bottle with you.

How have you found working with our support services consultant, Leah?

I have worked with Leah for a year and a half now doing exam invigilation, she is a lovely person to work with and she takes the time to support me with any queries I may have..

Sue Hicken - Part-Timer Worker

Why have you chosen to do exam invigilation, what are the benefits to you?

I chose exam invigilation because it fits around my other part-time work.

What do you enjoy about invigilation?

The benefits are additional work & an opportunity to meet other invigilators - something which I really enjoy.

Would you recommend exam invigilation to a friend and what tip would you give them?

I would and have recommended a friend to invigilating. My top tip would be to stick with Smile

How have you found working with our support services consultant, Leah?

Working with Leah is an absolute pleasure from the day she interviewed me. She has as great interpersonal skills & very competent at her work.

Angela Verley and Claude - Grandparents and retirees

Why have you chosen to do exam invigilation, what are the benefits to you?

We chose to do invigilating as it is so thing that we can do together as a couple. The benefits are of course, an extra income without committing ourselves to long-term or permanent employment.

What do you enjoy about invigilation?

As grandparents of children of school age, we enjoyed the experience of seeing what goes on in schools and having an understanding of what our grandchildren are facing exam wise. We are in a much better position to be able to advise and help as they approach their own exams. There is also a feeling of self-satisfaction in that we're ensuring that there is a fair and level playing field.

Would you recommend exam invigilation to a friend and what tip would you give them?

Yes, we would recommend invigilating and have done. Our best tip would be to wear quiet, comfortable shoes! On a serious note, we also adopt an approach of keeping a certain distance from the students, as familiarity does not help. It maintains an air of the students being a little unsure about us, and not "trying it on" with us.

How have you found working with our support services consultant, Leah?

We have a good working relationship, with Leah being able to now ring us at short notice if cover is urgently needed somewhere.

So, if you are:

-Looking for some extra work to fit around your lifestyle and existing commitments

-Looking to boost your income

-Looking to gain more experience working in schools

Then, we would love to hear from you. All you need to do is submit your CV and we’ll do the rest!
